It's fantastic when a really early start pays dividends, this was a 5 am start and with a bit of commando crawling and silent steps I managed to get pretty close to this lovely Roe deer family.

Here's a few more shots of the family before they decided that was enough and bolted. They were luck it was just me and not the local farmer!

Made the first visit of the year down to our local RSPB reserve Fowlsheugh, Not such a long trip as its only 5 minutes away in the car. Fantastic to see all the seabirds starting to gather again. Was very pleased to catch one or two Puffins near the top of the cliffs in a bit of decent light. and the Razorbills never fail to perform in front of the lens.

It was great to finally get this quite large piece finished recently, An Otter sitting on a rock contemplating who knows what-probably lunch. I got quite a lot of feedback and decided not to add anything else to the image to leave the viewer with something to think about. And also on instruction darkened quite a lot of the tones.

Here are some recent shots from up in our small hide in the woods just 5 minutes from my house. Of course I spend far too much time up there. Definately spring is in the air

Took a trip up to the mountains at the weekend, This was the first time I've laid eyes upon Mountain Hare they are pretty difficult to spot but once you get your eye in the are surprisingly quite a few around, despite the recent culls.

A few commando crawl were required to get close enough and I was pretty chuffed to manage to isolate a few against the sky and hills in the backgr...

Just completed another Kingfisher drawing, again this was drawn from one of my reference pictures taken down in Galloway.

I think this was one of my favorite Kingfisher images managed to find an interesting perch for him to sit on something different from what other visitors were using at the hide.

This years bumper crop of berries has seen quite a lot of Winter visitors such as Redwing and Waxwing visiting the NE of Scotland. Didn't need to go far to see these guys though these are from my back garden.

As well as the Waxwings and Redwing we also saw large numbers of Fieldfare,Mistle and Song Thrush and lots of Blackbirds. The Berries didnt last long!

Spent a brilliant day and evening at Mark and Sue's Pine Marten hide in Perthshire. What a brilliant set up You couldn't fail to get fantastic pictures of the visiting wildlife.

I will definitely be revisiting this place as soon as I can, perhaps to capture the Pine Martens in a bit of daylight, bring on the summer. There are also some visiting birds to keep you occupied whi...

This was my second visit to Troup head I went last year for a day trip also. This has got to be one of my favourite spots for photographing birds.

Gannets are fantastic birds so imposing and at Troup you can get very close as they nest near the top of the cliffs. They are also fantastic to watch in flight with a massive wing span.

Here is a small collection of my shots from Troup...
